Greenwich Animal Shelters Get Special Holiday Donation

On Monday, December 19, at 10 a.m. several local pet shelters and rescues received a large donation of healthy, nutritious holiday meals from a 15-year-old girl ... and Ellen DeGeneres.

Mimi Ausland is the founder of Freekibble.com, a web site she started when she was just 11 years old. Each day, site visitors answer a pet-related trivia question to earn 10 pieces of kibble for homeless pets. To date, the site has donated more than 6.6 million meals for pets in need. Ellen is the co-owner of pet food company, Halo, Freekibble.com's official pet food sponsor.

Forty shelters and rescues across the U.S. will receive a total of 400,000 healthy meals for the holidays during an 11-city, bi-coastal "Kibble Drop" tour, taking place Dec. 13-21.

Greenwich was the 8th stop on the route. The Pet Pantry Warehouse hosted the delivery and Karuna Bully Rescue, For the Love of Dogs, Adopt a Dog Rescue and Brookhaven Animal Shelter will pick up their holiday kibble to feed the homeless pets in their care.
