Old Greenwich Association Annual Meeting
On Thursday, January 26th, Old Greenwich residents will have the opportunity to learn from the experts some steps and suggestions they can take to help prepare for the next big storm or emergency, at the Old Greenwich Association (OGA) Annual Meeting. Presented by members of the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Company, the goal of the evening will be to help residents develop a plan for their own homes in times of trouble.
David Rafferty, president of the OGA Board of Directors, notes, “This is a timely topic in that many OG residents have either been directly affected or know someone who has had their power go out, had their home flooded or watched as trees and limbs have come crashing down in the past year. We can’t control nature, but we can prepare for it, and that is what we are hoping to present to our residents: good ideas that anyone can use to be better prepared.”
In addition to the keynote safety program, the OGA will also be introducing the Village Improvement Committee (VIC) to the community. This local group, consisting of residents, elected officials and other stakeholders was first proposed early last year in response to suggestions to alter the treescape in downtown Old Greenwich. Says Rafferty, “The VIC is off to a good start looking into the needs and interests of the community. This is just a beginning, but I believe some very sold plans and actions will be coming out in the future.”
The Old Greenwich Association annual meeting will be held upstairs at the Sound Beach Fire House meeting room on Sound Beach Avenue, starting with coffee and conversation at 7:00 p.m. The business meeting and presentations will kick off at 7:30 p.m. The OGA has a long history of putting together public forums under the guiding premise that a community that speaks with one voice will be heard. The January 26th meeting is a chance for residents to come together to listen, learn, and inquire. All are invited to attend and admission is free.
