'Inappropriate Touching' Investigated

Police say incident involving man driving a white van occurred Halloween afternoon on Mallard Drive.

Greenwich Police are investigating an incident that took place on Mallard Drive in central Greenwich were a female victim reported that she had been inappropriately touched on Halloween afternoon.

At approximately 2 p.m., police received a report that an 18-year-old female was walking along Mallard Drive when she approached by a passing white van with a ladder on top. The operator is described as an overweight white male with blue eyes and brownish-orange facial hair, according to a statement released by police Tuesday afternoon. "The operator was wearing a gray sweater and black knit cap. The operator reportedly offered her a ride and convinced the girl to get in the van. He then proceeded to drive the girl to her residence, which was a short distance away. While traveling to the residence it was reported that the operator inappropriately touched her," according to the statement.

The case is being investigated by the Special Victims Section. And police are asking that anyone with any information regarding the incident to call (203) 622-8030 or the department's tip line at 203-622-3333.

Police also said, "We also urge all parents to take speak to their children regarding the dangers of accepting unsolicited rides from strangers."
