Greenwich Ranks 29th on Money Magazine's 'Best Places to Live'

"Though the vast cultural options of New York City are only an hour via train, many Greenwich residents work close to home in the plethora of hedge fund and financial firms based in the area," the report states.

Citing the town's high per capita income, great beaches and close proximity to New York City, Money magazine has ranked Greenwich 29th in its 2012 "Best Places to Live" list.

"Though the vast cultural options of New York City are only an hour via train, many residents work close to home in the plethora of hedge fund and financial firms based in the area," the report states. "The price for this sweet lifestyle? High. Recently the median price of a home in Greenwich was almost $1.2 million."

The list only considers towns with populations of 50,000 to 300,000. Towns with a median family income of more than 200% or less than 85% of the state average were not considered.

In addition towns with more than 95% of one race, as well as those those with poor education and crime scores, were also not considered. Also left off the list are towns that are retirement communities or which have sustained major job losses.

In addition to ranking towns based on criteria such as per capita income, school quality, crime rate, average length of commute, job growth, home affordability, safety, health care, arts and leisure, diversity, weather, number of restaurants and ease-of-living, the editors of Money also visited each town to assess its physical characteristics, as well as to interview residents and "consider intangibles like community spirit."
