Thegirls hockey team had no trouble rebounding from its lopsided loss to New Canaan in the FCIAC championship game.
Hannah Jeffrey scored three goals and Emily Bacon added a pair Monday as the Cardinals defeated No. 12 seed Fairfield 6-1 in the first round of the state tournament at the Dorothy Hamill Rink.

The fifth-seeded Cardinals, who were thumped by New Canaan 8-0 on Saturday, will take on No. 3 Ridgefield in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Winter Garden Arena in Ridgefield.
Erin Ferguson had four assists while Meghan Spezzano added three helpers for the Cardinals, who outshot Fairfield, 37-10.

Jeffrey scored a natural hat trick -- three straight goals -- in the first period when Greenwich (14-7-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Maddy Graves also scored for the Cardinals.
Dart Freccia made nine saves for Greenwich, allowing a third-period goal to Annie Kaye Ficarra, while Stephanie Gabriel stopped 31 shots for Fairfield (7-11), which was playing in the first state tournament game in school history.
Ridgefield and Greenwich will be meeting for the fourth time this season. The Cardinals won two of the previous three meetings, including a 4-3 win in the FCIAC semifinals last week.

The Greenwich-based Spirit Zone is pleased to announce that its junior level one cheerleading team, "Amazonites”, received two awards on Sunday at the Mardi Gras Nationals at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield.
The squad competed in the junior level one and earned its initial first-place award for the new team, which only began working together in October.
It also won the grand championship award, which is presented to the team which scores the highest in all level one competitions. The girls were led by coaches Christopher Mendyka and Craig DeSaussure.
Spirit Zone Too, which just recently opened in Greenwich in September, offers tumbling classes, stunt clinics, cheer skills classes, All-Star competitive cheer teams, open gym time, birthday parties, toddler/preschool gymnastics, coaching clinics and more.

Greenwich will host the FCIAC boys swimming championships this week. The trials are set for Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. with the finals slated for Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Last year, Greenwich won its fourth straight FCIAC championship while winning the title for the 40th time in the last 41 years.
The Cardinals are once again considered the favorite after concluding their dual meet season with a 10-1 record.
The FCIAC boys diving championships with take at Westhill on Wednesday starting at 4:30 p.m.
