Greenwich To Host Its Own 'Fashion Night Out'

The New York Fashion Show is coming to stroll our runway: Greenwich Avenue.

All along I've been alluding to the Ave's many runway-like attributes: the bevy of high-end retailers featuring flashy window designs, its stroll-friendly sidewalks and, let's not forget the twinkling holiday lights strung in the trees overhead.

As a result, the town of Greenwich, thanks to some cajoling from savvy ladies like Ms. Geri Corrigan at Saks Fifth Avenue, will host its first ever 'Fashion Night Out' on Sept. 8, declaring the date "Fashion Night Out in Greenwich" day. All over the country, more than 100  cities and large towns capable of hosting such high-fashion events with have their own FNO's (the acronymn is being heavily pushed to use).

Last Tuesday, I attended the press conference to announce the event. It was held in front of Saks on the Avenue with words from First Selectman Peter Tesei, the honorary chairman of 'Fashion Night Out' in Greenwich, noting the excitement and benefit to the town of hosting such an event.

So, what can we expect when such a big city fashion event lands upon our suburban boulevard? Well, like most things that have been directly transported from NYC to Greenwich, the event promises all the same sophistication of its urban predecessor, but with the distinct community spirit and inclusive nature of our town.

First off, all local businesses are invited to participate (contact Geri Corrigan at 203-862-5308 or geri_corrigan@s5a.com). Second, there will be local musical acts and entertainment in conjunction with the event, and so if you are a musician or artist interested in performing or showcasing your work, you also should contact Geri.

What us spectators can expect is a closure of Greenwich Avenue from Lewis to Elm Streets for a 'red carpet' runway show starting at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to view the parade of designs. Many of the Avenue's restaurants, retail stores, salons, galleries and such will stay open later than usual to host to open houses or small parties celebrating fall fashion that night. Just like the Greenwich Arts Council's 'Art to the Avenue,' this event will be a town-wide affair, highlighting the forward-thinking, socially-minded and, as always, sophisiticated crowd that Greenwich attracts.

For more information, please check the events Facebook page - Fashion's Night out in Greenwich or follow the event on Twitter @FNOgreeenwich (Yes, folks, its a 21st century event, too!)

Hope to see you there!
