Student Accused of Bringing Knife to Class

Student refused teacher's demands to relinquish the nine-inch hunting knife.

 

A 17-year-old student of the town's alternative high school, the Arch School, was arrested on a weapons possession charge after he displayed a nine-inch knife to a teacher and refused to relinquish it, according to Greenwich Police.

The incident happned about 1:50 p.m. April 12—the day after Greenwich High School was placed in lockdown when a student intimated he had a gun in his backpack and intended to use it.

The student had a nine-inch hunting knife in his book bag and refused his teacher's orders to relinquish it, police spokesman Lt.. Kraig Gray said. After several refusals, school officials called police. The teen told police he "did not want to give the knife to school staff because he weas afraid he would not get the knife back," according to a police report.

He was issued a juvenile summons for carrying a dangerous weapon and scheduled to appear April 23 in the Juvenile Matters Division of state Superior Court in Stamford.
