Lets face it, we've all been there. You know, that feeling that the world is completely against us, like we are sinking through the soles of our own shoes and into the inner core of the Earth. These are weeks we all face common amongst the entire human population and for that matter so difficult for others to understand.
I have watched close friends and relatives consumed by the pressure to be perfect, which poses a problem especially with today's generation. With all the advancements we have, it is fairly simple to lose sight of the important things. Growing up in Greenwich, in particular I have come to realize that having the newest and greatest items - though not in all cases - can certainly gain one many friends. This being said we are heaped with a ton of pressure when we find ourselves the only one still carrying around, say an Ipod from 2001.
Pressure is a leading factor when it comes to eating disorders, substance abuse, even below-par grades. There is such a standard to live up to today that not many seem to understand because the bar is raised for everyone. You could be the most confident person and still have that nagging voice in your mind telling you that you are not thin enough or pretty enough. I am not a psychologist but I observe and tackle pressure firsthand everyday at Greenwich High School, and have come to realize the fact that we have stopped living for ourselves and started living to fit the 'image.'
Take a step back and breathe for yourself because the pressure to be perfect is certainly not all it's cracked up to be.
