Companies working at two construction sites in Greenwich were ordered to stop work because of suspected labor law violations. According to a statement released Tuesday by State Labor Commissioner Glenn Marshall four companies working at two sites in Greenwich are among a total of 13 companies working around the state who were issued stop work orders between April 12 and May 7. "Stop work orders are levied against companies that misclassify workers as independent contractors with the intent of avoiding their obligations under federal and state employment laws covering such matters as workers’ compensation, unemployment taxes and payroll reporting," Marshall said in the statement. John Blankley, the Greenwich Democrat who lost the First Selectman's race last November by a nearly 3 to 1 margin, announced Tuesday that he "intends to run as the Democratic candidate for District 149 in the Connecticut State House of Representatives."
