Super Bowl Edition - Budget Mondays

Monday – 1/27/2014

It’s Monday – a painful day for most people, yours truly included. Sometimes it is made even more painful as we remember just how much money we ended up spending over the weekend.

Budget

It’s one word that can make people cringe, angry and sad all at the same time, a rare occurrence indeed. Super Bowl Sunday is right around the corner, and with the game come the numerous parties. Millions of people watch the game, and even casual football fans and/or fans of teams that are not involved in the game watch the game. More importantly, for our purposes, is that Americans consumer approximately 30 million pounds of snacks on Super Bowl Sunday. Throwing parties can be an expensive undertaking, and it can be even more expensive when you factor in the food, drinks, and decorations that often accompany the Super Bowl.

There is no reason, however, that you cannot throw a festive Super Bowl party and stick to your budget at the same time. Let’s look at a few tips that can help you host a great party, and stick to your budget!

Buy generic snacks – with the distraction of the game, and possible a beverage or two, virtually no one will taste the difference between generic chips and brand name ones.

Home cooking – homemade dips can be a great addition to any Super Bowl party lineup. Microwave some cheese and salsa to create a tasty homemade salsa dip!

Coupons – clip coupons and make it a BYOB. Coupons will help you save money, and if the party is at least partially BYOB, everyone can drink what they like!
