YMCA OF GREENWICH ANNOUNCES TWO NEW SWIM COACHES

The YMCA of Greenwich is pleased to announce that Kevin Stone & Maura O’Grady will be joining the Marlins Swim Team coaching staff this fall. Both coaches come to the Y with over fifteen years of coaching experience in both Fairfield and Westchester County.

“We’re incredibly thrilled to have these two coaches on board,” said Ed Philipp, YMCA President and CEO.

“They have solid reputations and the experience to take the YMCA of Greenwich Marlins to the next level. We can’t wait to see what ahead for the Marlins this season!”

Kevin Stone previously served as Head Age-Group Coach at Empire Swimming and Head Coach at YWCA Middies and Coveleigh Club. He is currently Head Coach at the American Yacht Club. Stone has also coached at USA Swimming Zone Distance Camps as well as National Select Camps at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado. During his career, Stone has coached swimmers from the beginning levels up through the highest senior elite. His athletes have been recognized in the National Age-Group rankings, set Metropolitan LSC records, achieved USA and NSCA Junior National times. Stone was named the Metropolitan Age-Group Coach of the Year in 2001 and Westchester County Swim Conference Coach of the Year in 1996 and 2009.

Maura O'Grady comes to the YMCA of Greenwich Marlins from the Badger Swim School in Larchmont, NY, where she has overseen the Developmental Program for the past two seasons. Prior to joining Badger Swim Club, she was the Head Age Group Coach at the Greenwich YWCA Dolphins for 15 years. O’Grady has joined us with a wealth of knowledge of teaching the fundamentals of all four strokes in the Badger Swim School. Currently, O’Grady is the Assistant Dean of Students and a member of the PE department at Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, CT. She has been at Convent for the past 13 years where she oversees the daily life of the Upper School and teaches all students, ages 3-17, how to swim. In 2012, she was awarded the Westchester County Coach of the Year.

Both Stone and O’Grady will join current Marlins Head Coach Connie Wu this August in preparation for team tryouts. Marlins tryouts will be held September 3rd-5th from 5:00pm-6:30pm.
