ABILITY BEYOND…Nationally respected non-profit unveils new name and logo that honors its mission of helping adults with developmental, physical and other disabilities build and celebrate their abilities

(BETHEL, CT & MT. KISCO NY – SEPTEMBER 18, 2013)  Ability Beyond Disability, a respected non-profit organization with programs in Connecticut and New York, has unveiled a new name and logo that honors its mission of helping people with developmental disabilities, brain injuries and other physical or mental health challenges discover, build and celebrate their abilities.

Effective immediately, the organization will be known as Ability Beyond – a name that reflects the limitless possibilities for its clients to live beyond their physical or mental capabilities. The new name and logo were unveiled yesterday at the group’s annual meeting.

Gregory Smith, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said, “Throughout our 60-year history, Ability Beyond has been a pioneer in helping people live with dignity, independence and hope. As a leader in our field, we do not focus on the challenges our clients live with.  And we certainly don’t let their disabilities define who they are or what they are capable of achieving.

“So as an organization, we decided that we would not let the word “disability” define us either. After careful consideration, the Board has made the decision to drop the word “disability” from our name. Starting today we will be known as Ability Beyond – a name that reflects an organization that is experiencing dynamic growth, as well as a society that has become more accepting of the people we serve.”

Over the last decade, Ability Beyond has expanded its outreach and now provides a wide-range of services to more than 2,000 adults and young adults in Connecticut and New York who live with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, brain injury, mental illness and often accompanying physical disabilities. Services include residential alternatives, employment training, career counseling, job placement services, cognitive and life skills instruction, clinical and therapeutic support, and volunteer and recreational activities
