(Greenwich, Conn. – April 19, 2012) – is proud to announce that Billy Murphy, a senior, has signed a letter of intent to play varsity basketball at Lafayette College in the fall.
Billy has played on the Brunswick varsity basketball team since his freshman year. Over his career, he developed much of this potential and evolved into the kind of player and leader that any coach would want.
With an agile 6’9” frame, Billy has scored a total of 926 points and corralled 447 rebounds. This year he averaged 14.7 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game, leading the Bruins in both categories. Billy was named all FAA in each of the past two years, and honorable mention all New England this year.
“Billy has a shooting touch that goes out to the 3-point range,” said Robert Taylor, Varsity basketball coach and Brunswick Upper School history teacher. “His 3-point shooting percentage was one of the highest on the team, and his skills have come from years of dedication, discipline, and sacrifice. Billy is an outstanding example for any young player striving to develop his potential.”
“Since I started playing team basketball in 4th grade, I’ve always dreamed of this,” said Billy. “I’m looking forward to what Lafayette has to offer: top academics and the opportunity to play Div I varsity basketball.”
Lafayette’s Division I Patriot League is a member of the Eastern College Athletic Association (ECAC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
