Despite a brisk wind last Saturday morning, an enthusiastic crowd of over 650 runners and walkers joined in the 2nd Annual Turkey Trot 5K and 1Mile Fun Run/Walk to support the Greenwich Alliance for Education. The community fundraising event benefits the town’s education foundation whose mission is to mobilize community resources and services that foster educational success for all Greenwich public school students.
The best all round finisher for the Turkey Trot 5K was Daniel Willbank,17, of Greenwich, the top women's winner was Doris Berman, 20, of Mount Kisco, NY. This year the Alliance encouraged each school in Greenwich to participate in the event; special recognition goes to Julian Curtiss Elementary School who garnered the greatest number of participants relative to the size of its school.
Race day, runners were treated to plentiful post-race refreshments, including water and Gatorade provided by Pepsico and bagels and coffee from The Upper Crust Bagel Company. Heathful treats of apples and bananas from Kings Food Markets, and muffins, courtesy of Whole Foods, were also on hand to give a boost to the participants.
The Alliance is thrilled with the success of the event and the level of sponsorship it received.
