Greenwich Blues Share Holiday Spirit with Neighbor to Neighbor

In the spirit of the holiday season, families from the Greenwich Blues Hockey Association (GBHA) gathered essential food staples for donation to Neighbor-to-Neighbor. The non-profit organization improves lives by providing for the exchange of food, clothing and basic living essentials in an atmosphere of kindness and respect.   Last year Neighbor-to-Neighbor provided almost 300,000 meals and distributed 17, 000 bags of clothing.

“It’s important to remind our kids that participating in sports involves more than just showing up at the rink - it also means taking care of your community,” said GBHA Board President Graeme Fattedad. “We look forward to continuing to build our relationship with Neighbor-to-Neighbor.”

Together, GBHA teams collected 15 boxes of food, including ‘urgent need items’ like peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna, beans, pasta and sauce.

“We are so grateful to the Greenwich Blues for participating in this food drive,” said Neighbor to Neighbor Executive Director Nancy Coughlin.  “The number of people coming to us for food assistance since the beginning of the economic downturn has increased 55% and we expect demand to remain high.  We receive no government funding and rely on the generosity of groups such as GBHA to help us provide weekly food to over 1,000 Greenwich residents.  Food drives like this remind us how much we can accomplish by coming together with a common purpose.”
