Greenwich PTA Council Essence Award Winner Announced

On June 6th, at the Board of Education Building, the Greenwich PTA Council Essence Award Recognition Ceremony was held to honor individuals who demonstrate excellence in volunteerism. The Essence award, in its second year, was created to acknowledge individuals who tirelessly and admirably work to better the Greenwich Public Schools, whether from a position of leadership or as

a member of a team. The 2012 Recipient of the Essence Award is Wendy Figueroa, VP of Fundraising for the New Lebanon School PTA.

Ms. Figueroa has been an active member in the PTA at New Lebanon School. Thanks to her tireless efforts the New Lebanon students have experienced enrichment programs such as the circus, African drumming, nature programs, and social events. This development work honors the many New Lebanon students who are not native speakers of English, by offering a key to the new land they are now living in.

Ms. Figueroa’s efforts extend beyond raising funds for the school. She is a community builder, assisting new families acclimating by helping with school registrations, summer school registrations, apartment leases, and reduced lunch
applications. Ms. Figueroa strives to have the community and the school work as partners. She was nominated by Principal Barbara Riccio.

The following individuals were also honored at the Recognition Ceremony for their contributions to individual school PTAs and PTA Council Committees: Julia Allan, Parkway School PTA; Judy Badia, Glenville School PTA; Camille Broderick, Green Schools Committee; Paula Daum, Parkway School PTA; Rianne Fernandez Staps, Central Middle School PTA; Teresa Ginsberg, Special Education Support Committee; Katy Massam, North Street School PTA; Kelly Schnabel, Parkway School PTA; Andrea Vaz and Marlene Gilbert, Western Middle School PTA; Wendy Yu, Old Greenwich School PTA; and Dr. Lisa Zimmerman*, International School at Dundee PTA.

Seems to me you are missing the most obvious which is shown in the photo used at the top ofRead More Greenwich Patch pages - Grass Island Marina/Park is directly across the waterway. You won't be able to see much of the stage front but you can certainly enjoy the tunes.
