Lucy Day, a Founding Member of the Breast Cancer Alliance, Receives the Becker Salon Leadership Award

Lucy Day, a founding member and former president of the Breast Cancer Alliance, is the second recipient of the 2013 Becker Salon Leadership Award. The salon, located at 268 Mason Street in Greenwich, established the Leadership Award to honor outstanding leaders in the community who are making a difference.

The Becker Salon Leadership Award is given to top leaders, male or female, of 501c3 nonprofit organizations of any size in Fairfield and Westchester counties.  Leaders are chosen who are successfully fulfilling a mission and who demonstrate passion and commitment to a cause. Four leaders are to be honored this year.

“We want to recognize those who do so much to make our communities better,” said Becker Chicaiza, owner.  “This is our way to say thank you and give back to those leaders who do not often receive recognition for their efforts.” Award winners receive a complimentary Becker Salon experience - a complete haircut, color and style - and a plaque and donation to their charity.

Founded in 1996, the Breast Cancer Alliance strives to improve survival rates and quality of life for those impacted by breast cancer through better prevention, early detection, treatment and cure. The organization invests in innovative research, breast surgery fellowships, regional education, dignified support and screening for the underserved and uninsured. Since its founding, the Breast Cancer Alliance has awarded $17 million in grants.

The first recipient of the 2013 Becker Salon Leadership Award was Shari Shapiro, executive director of Kids in Crisis. Two additional leaders will be selected through the end of the year. The salon enables clients to cast a vote for their choice of leaders through its website, www.BeckerSalon.com and social media. Chicaiza and Deborah Elam of GE assist in the final selection.

Becker Salon celebrated its fifth anniversary last year. Named one of the five top salons in Greenwich by Beauty & Style Magazine, the salon has developed a large following in the region. Chicaiza and his staff carefully adhere to their mission, which is to highlight the beauty of everyone who enters the salon with the magic touch of their hands.
