Big City Fashion Hits Greenwich Ave This Thursday

Greenwich's first ever Fashion Night Out will premiere this Thursday Evening from 6 to 11 p.m.

In typical Greenwich fashion (pun intended), the town's inaugural foray into the glamorous world of runways and models will take place this Thursday evening on the Ave, on our very own Boulevard of Dreams (or more accurately, High-Priced Seams). Fashion's Night Out is actually a two-year old concept first created in NYC to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence and boost the industry's economy.

The festivities will begin with a live red carpet runway show held between Lewis and Elm Streets starting at 6:30 p.m., which will cause the block to be shut to traffic starting at 5 p.m. The show will feature models from over 30 participating stores such as (the Host of the event), , , and .

After the show, the reverie continues with complimentary open-house activities at each participating store, ranging from live music performances, trunk shows, makovers, tasting and yup, cocktails. All the events are open to the public, encouraging a community-wide spirit. In fact, it's the community who stands to benefit the most from an event like this, according to Saks Press Manager, Geri Corrigan, who says, "although Fashion Night Out happens all over the world and in big cities like New York where its about celebrities, here it will be about the community. The idea behind the event is to attract people from neighboring towns to Greenwich."

Given Greenwich's upscale notoriety among its neighbors (for better or for worse), large events promoting the town's ever-increasing relationship with high-end retailers may appear off-putting to some in the community. However, just the opposite has prevailed according to Geri Corrigan, PR Manager of Saks and Host of the Event, who says, "The support and response form local businesses and the community-at-large has been so positive. Everyone has worked closely together, especially those in and the ." It appears, what's good for retail, is ultimately good for Greenwich.

So, be sure to come out on Thursday night, bring the kids, particularly your budding fashionistas, and indulge in some of the treats (raffles, tastings and even complimentary spa services) offered by the participating stores. But most of all, come out in support of our town's economy, its local businesses and individual vendors. Although the event may appear to have a glitzy image, it's still very much, the neighborly thing to do.
