Celebrate 4th of July Greenwich Style

A flag-raising, parade of the flags of the 13 colonies and honoring town citizens who are descendants of Greenwich's founding families is planned for 9 a.m. Thursday.

Celebrating our nation's birthday and honoring Greenwich's own Colonial history will all be included in Thursday morning's Fourth of July celebration in front of Greenwich Town Hall.

Each year, hundreds of residents gather in front of the Town Hall where the first American flag is raised and Greenwich Scouts conduct a parade of the flags of the 13 Colonies. It all begins at 9 a.m. Also, each year, the descendants of the founding families of Greenwich are recognized.

This year's program also will include recognition of the 150th anniversaries of Gettysburg and President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. There also will be a salute to patriots from Greenwich who died in the Revolutionary War.

Good Citizen award winners from Greenwich's public and private schools will receive their awards.

The ceremony will be held rain or shine.
