Greenwich Animal Hospital Shows You How To Spot Pesky Ticks

Ticks are a problem all year round but Spring and Fall are the seasons with the most problematic and increased tick activity. Dr. Philip Putter of Greenwich Animal Hospital showed Patch the proper way to check a pet for ticks.

"This has been the worst year in 15 years where we've seen tick activity," Putter said. "Here in Greenwich, We're close to Lyme, Connecticut, where Lyme disease was discovered. 56-percent of pets seen last year tested positive for limes disease."

Putter said you should be checking at least once a week, if not more. He said it was very important to get the entire tick out and that pet owners can do it themselves at home, but if there were any concerns, a vet would take care of it.

"Some of the small ones are very, very small," he said. "After having a tick removed, you can have the tick tested locally by town hall to check for Lyme disease."
