Greenwich "Fashion on the Ave" – Down the Runway Before the Rain

With twice the number of models as last year, "Fashion on the Avenue" managed to stay just ahead of the rain.

Greenwich celebrated "Fashion on the Avenue"on Thursday with a jumbo red carpet unfurled down the middle of the town's famous one-way thoroughfare and an improvised runway accommodating dozens of models of all ages. Ranging from pre-school age to adults, the they sported everything from wedding gowns by Gizelle Couture to pastel sweaters from Vineyard Vines. There were even historical costumes from Sophia's.

The Ave. was closed from Lewis to Elm Streets and although the sky grew ominous and photographers turned on their flashes, the thunderstorm and showers waited until well after the last model worked the 'red carpet' runway.

According to Geri Corrigan, Director of Marketing for Saks Fifth Avenue in Greenwich, this year's show was twice the size of last year's, with over 80 intrepid models sauntering down the red carpet under the darkening sky.

The show concluded with a performance by dancers from The Arthur Murray Grande Ballroom of Greenwich, and flanking the runway was a car show of 'beautiful' models presented by Mercedes-Benz of Greenwich.

Sponsors of Fashion on the Avenue were Equinox, First Bank of Greenwich, The Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, Patch, Saks Fifth Avenue and Serendipity Magazine.

Following the fashion show, stores hosted open house parties up and down the Avenue for guests to enjoy refreshments, music and see the new collections. Participating local businesses included Alexis Bittar, Alice & Olivia, Atelier 360, Barcelona, Becker Salon, Benefit, Blue Jeans Bar, Brooks Brothers, Christopher Noland Salon, Claire's, Classic Kids, Comptoir des Cotonniers, Crave, Do's Hair Salon, Douro, Dream Spa & Salon, Ellela Cosmetics and Lash Salon, Equinox, Everything But Water, Fontana, Gap Kids, Jaafar Tazi Salon, Jack Wills, Joie, Kate Spade, Katie Fong, Letarte, Lily Pulitzer, Maje, Morello, Olivine Gabbro, Out Of the Box, Patricia Gourlay, Plush Blow, Polaryn O. Pyret, Pure Barre, Richards, Roam, Saks Fifth Avenue, Sandro, Shoes and More, Sophia's Costumes, Steven Alan, Stuart Weitzman, Tiffany & Co., Vilbreqin, Vineyard Vines and White Moth Jewelry.

The goal of Greenwich Fashion on the Avenue, according to Corrigan, was to support the local business community through an event for all ages, and celebrate the fall shopping season.
