Greenwich 'Relay for Life' Set for June 14th at Brunswick School

Hundreds to walk through the night to raise funds for cancer research

With a theme of "Pack the Track in '13," all across Greenwich and neighboring communities, teams are organizing for the 7th Relay for Life of Greenwich, one of a series of all-night events to raise funds for cancer research and increase awareness of the disease.

Local organizer Angela Rudas of American Cancer Society, summed up the premise of 'Relay for Life,' in a phrase. "Cancer never sleeps," said Rudas. "Participants will walk the track for as long as they wish, but every team must have at least one member on the track at all times."

Relay for Life teams preparing for the June 14th event at Brunswick School have created a Facebook page to build excitement for the fundraiser. With about two weeks until the event, 352 participants from 49 teams with names like "Celebrate Good Times (like the song)" and "Fist Pump for a Cure" have raised over $86,000 according to the Relay for Life website.

At Convent of the Sacred Heart School in Greenwich, the club "GOPiNK," dedicated to raising money and educating teenagers about breast cancer, plan to participate in the event at Brunswick School.

In addition to raising funds for research and increasing awareness of the disease, participants will have an opportunity to honor cancer survivors, as well as remember loved ones lost.

The Relay for Life of Greenwich event kicks off Friday, June 14th at 6:00pm at Brunswick School,  1252 King Street. To sign up or donate, go to the event page on the Relay for Life website.
