Historic Greenwich Mural On The Move

Things will be a little more colorful in the lobby of the Greenwich Board of Education headquarters.

The Board of Ed and the Greenwich Board of Selectmen finalized a loan agreement that will allow installation of the large mural depicting Colonial life in Greenwich in the lobby of the Havemeyer Building.

The 10-foot by 11-foot mural originally was installed in the former main branch of the Greenwich post office located at the corner of Greenwich Avenue and Arch Street. It was barely visible to visitors as it was high above the lobby, bordering the ceiling.

The mural was removed after real estate magnate Peter Malkin bought the post office building for $15 million in 2011. Malkin plans to renovate the space that is to become the new home of Restoration Hardware.

The selectmen unanimously approved the mural loan at its April 25 meeting.
