John Street Bridge in Backcountry Greenwich to Reopen Friday

Great news for backcountry residents and users of the popular Audubon Greenwich on Riversville Road.

The construction of the replacement of the John Street Bridge, between Riversville and Round Hill Roads, is nearing completion and by the end of the day Friday, the new bridge and road will be open, according to the Greenwich Public Works Department. Although the road will be open, there will be ongoing work in the area, according to the DPW.

Work began in mid-June which meant closing down the road and causing residents to use a long detour through the North Porchuck and West Old Mill roads area.

Town officials plan a ribbon cutting ceremony at the bridge which crosses the East Byram River, for 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2013. This $709,216 project was designed by Fuss and O'Neill Inc. of Manchester and is being built by A. Vitti Excavators LLC of Stamford.
