A tree crew from the A. Vrtiak & Son Tree Service made quick work of removing a dead elm tree on East Putnam Avenue Wednesday.
Removal of the tree, located in the Greenwich Green condominium complex at the corner of Wendle Place in Old Greenwich, prompted the closure of both westbound lanes.
Greenwich Police originally estimated the road would be partially closed for an hour and then partially reopen during the early afternoon. About noon, crews were trimming tree branches hanging over East Putnam.
"The trucks go by and smack the branches," said tree service owner Andrew Vrtiak.
