Hundreds of people participated in The Greenwich Arts Council's annual sand sculpture festival.

Internationally recognized sand sculptors Wilfred Stiljger and Edith Van De Wetering were among the builders, creating a monumental sculpture. The pair just won the 2010 Virginia Beach Sand Building Championship, one of the most significant sand building events in the world.
The sculptures ranged from iPads to space crafts to turtles and sharks. There was even a snowman made of sand — a sandman? The creatures, great and small, were all swept away when the tide came in at 5:30 p.m.
