Sidewalk Construction Will Mean Detours at Cos Cob Train Station

The project is scheduled to begin July 21 and will improve pedestrian safety, Greenwich officials said.

Planned construction of sidewalks along Sound Shore Drive and Strickland Road in Cos Cob will be done in two phases that force closure of the road in that area leading to the Cos Cob train station.

The Greenwich Board of Selectmen at its July 10 meeting approved the road closures which will be done in one-week increments, starting July 21. If the weather cooperates, the second phase of the construction of walkways that will provide access to the soon-to-be completed Cos Cob Park, will done the second week of August, Chief Department of Public Works Engineer Jim Michel told the selectmen.

Part of the project includes construction of sidewalks on both side of the road beneath the Metro-North Railroad bridge on Sound Shore, Michel said.

Traffic will be detoured via Station Drive and Sachem Road.

Once construction is completed, the town will install new stop signs that will make the intersection of Sound Shore, Strickland and Station an all-way stop, Michel said. The move is designed to improve pedestrian safety.
