A wide variety of fine Haitian painting, sculpture, steel drum metalwork, and objets d’art will be exhibited and on sale during Art for Education: Haitian Art Show to benefit Haiti Lumiere de Demain, at Les Beaux Arts Gallery, 395 Round Hill Road in Greenwich. The exhibition runs from Saturday, October 20 through Sunday, November 18, 2012, with an Opening Reception on Friday, October 19th from 6 to 9 pm.

Art for Education will combine renowned and local Haitian artists, working in many different media, to present a picture of Haiti’s present, past and future. The paintings are whimsical with vibrant colors and the subjects relate to their everyday life. The display will also include handmade paper mache from Jacmel, the village of artisans famous for their elaborate paper mache carnival masks. Also there will be beautiful handmade metal work with intricate designs, which were coaxed out of recycled oil drums, using hammers and chisels.

All proceeds will benefit Haiti Lumiere de Demain, a non-profit organization operating to promote literacy and educational opportunities in rural and impoverished parts of Haiti by providing textbooks, scholarships, and other necessary learning tools since 1998. Each piece sold will help to educate a child on the island of La Gonave, Haiti.
