Greenwich Lost & Preserved

The exhibition Greenwich Lost & Preserved seeks to promote the value that old buildings have to the Greenwich community and provide the visitor with a deeper appreciation of the town’s past. Vivid contemporary images join vintage photographs, artifacts and paintings from private collections to show the story of historic preservation in Greenwich. The center of the exhibition tells the history of the Thomas Lyon House, Greenwich’s oldest unaltered house, and the seven generations of Lyon families who occupied it from the late 1690s until it was moved in the 1920’s. The house has been saved from demolition twice and its story explores some of the important ways ordinary people, in their daily lives, have been part of the great changes and events in American history.

Greenwich Lost & Preserved has been generously supported by the members of the Greenwich Preservation Trust as well as by the Julia Lyon Saunders family. The show at the Bruce Museum is supported by the Deborah G. and Charles M. Royce Exhibition Fund.
