Bethel: Chris Belden Performs Live

Bethel: Railroading Through Bethel

Where: The Bethel Historical Society, 40 Main St.

Description: Local railroad enthusiast and historian Christopher Lewis will tell stories of one of the most fascinating long lost train-lines of the Northeast. With storytelling, photographs, maps and memoribilia from both his personal collection and gathered by the Danbury Railroad Museum you’ll see and learn all about an integral part of the development of area transport, travel and trade in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Bethel: Spring Auction

Where: St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 95 Greenwood Ave.

When: Saturday, May 4, 6 p.m.
Cost: Free to attend

Description: A preview and silent bidding will begin at 6 p.m. The live auction begins at 6:30 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Relay for Life and the food pantry.

Bethany: Heritage and Hope Quilt Show

Where: First Church of Christ Congregational, 511 Amity Rd.

When: Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, 10 a.m.
Cost:  $7

Description: The exhibit will display more than 100 quilts in the quaint 1831 sanctuary of the church. There will be a boutique of hand-crafted items, a raffle quilt and a light lunch. Proceeds will go toward the church’s Wider Mission (www.ucc.org/ocwm/), the Connecticut Foodbank (www.ctfoodbank.org/) and other church charities.

Bethany: Bethany Land Trust Plaque Unveiling

Where: 406 Sperry Rd. When: Saturday, May 4, 10 a.m.
Cost:  Free

Description: Hear short reminiscences of how the land trust was founded and of Stephen Collins' work to protect Bethany and West Rock Ridge State Park and bring your own stories. Meet at the Neiderman-Sizer Field Preserve and bring lawn chairs or blankets. Light refreshments will be provided.  In case of inclement weather, call 203-393-1635. The rain date is May 5 at noon.

Brookfield: Live Music at The Room

Where: The Room, 3 Production Drive, Suite 3

Description: More than 10 bands will play at The Room. The show will be hosted by Tim "No. 37" Martinez from Hate the Hate.

Brookfield: Team Up for Women

Where: Mary Kay Beauty Center, 487 Federal Road

Cost: $10

Description: One hundred percent of the event's proceeds go toward the Mary Kay Foundation, dedicated to ending women's cancers and domestic abuse. Facials, glamour consultations, chair massages and raffles are just some of the day's activities.

Easton: Joel Barlow Student Jewelry Auction

Where: Easton Library, 691 Morehouse Road

When: Saturday, May 4, 7 p.m.
Cost:  Free to attend, various costs for jewelry

Description: Students enrolled in Joel Barlow High School's jewelry classes completed pieces of jewelry for the auction. Proceeds go to benefit Native Americans enrolled at Turtle Mountain High School in North Dakota. There will be food, live music, and stunning pieces of jewelry available for the benefit of the art department in North Dakota.

Fairfield: Rabies Vaccine Clinic

Where: Fairfield Animal Shelter, 211 One Rod Highway, Fairfield, CTWhen: Saturday, May 4, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Cost: $20 Description: Low-cost rabies vaccine clinic at Fairfield Animal Shelter. All dogs and cats older than three months of age must have a valid rabies vaccination, per state law. Any animal without previous rabies vaccination will receive a one-year vaccine. 

Fairfield: Riverfield School Carnival 

Where: Riverfield School, 1625 Mill Plain Road, Fairfield, CT When: Friday, May 3 (6 p.m. - 9 p.m.), Saturday, May 4 (2 p.m. - 9 p.m.), and Sunday, May 5 (12 p.m. - 5 p.m.) Cost: Varies. Can purchase wristbands tickets. Description: Rides, games, food, fun. 

Fairfield: Dogwood Festival

Where: Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield, CT When: Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Sunday, May 5 (12 p.m. to 5 p.m.) Cost: Admission is free. Description: Arts and crafts, art show, musical performances, plant and garden boutique, activities for kids.


Litchfield: Slavery in Litchfield Walking Tour

Where: 7 South St.

When: Saturday, May 4, 10 a.m.Cost:  $10

Description: The question is sometimes asked whether slavery was ever general in Litchfield. While Litchfield did not actively participate in the slave trade, there were a handful of slaves owned by wealthy families in Litchfield. Find out whom those families were, how their slaves were treated and what happened after slavery was finally abolished. Bring a bottle of water and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Middlebury: St. George's Tag Sale

Description: Quality items will include sporting equipment, children’s toys, china, glassware, household goods, small appliances in working order, dishes, books and glass vases. The Furniture Gallery, displayed on the back lawn of the Parish Hall at bargain prices, comes with help loading into cars or trucks. New this year, St. George’s will sell hanging flower baskets, a special variety of geraniums and other small plants on the back lawn.

Description: Jayden Roll is a 4-year-old girl who needs help. Jayden was diagnosed with MDS, a disease that may soon develop into AML Leukemia. In order to survive, Jayden will need a bone marrow transplant in the coming weeks. But first, she will have to find a match.  Unfortunately, there are no existing matches in the registry. A simple cheek swab will tell if you're a match.

Norwalk: Volunteer Trail Work, Tree Planting

Where: Meet at Union Park at the end of Mott Street behind the Norwalk Public Library.

Description: Volunteers will clean up trash along the trail, cut back invasive plants and help plant native trees as well as indigenous shrubs and vines. Bring work gloves, clippers and shovels, if possible.

Orange: Folktales From Around the World

Woodbridge: Eagle Project Bike and Household Goods Collection Drive

Description: This is an Eagle project run by a Boy Scout from Troop 63. He is collecting used adult or children's bikes in easily reparable condition, and gently used kitchen and household goods, for distribution to recently arrived refugee families through IRIS.

Woodbury: Flowers for Mom

Description: Children ages 4-11 are invited to create a special flower arrangement for Mother's Day.  Members of the Pomperaug Valley Garden Club will be on hand to help children choose flowers and decorate flower pots to give to Mom for Mother's Day.  All supplies will be provided by the Garden Club.  This program is free and open to area residents.  Please call to register your child as space is limited.
