Greenwich Student Wins 1st Place in 2 International Film Festivals

It's been a good week for Convent of the Sacred Heart student Gabrielle Giacomo.

The 15-year-old sophomore won first place for her documentary “From Farm to Table” in both the Chicago CineYouth Film Festival and the Delta Moon Student Film Festival in Walnut Creek, CA.

Her film demonstrates the link between fresh locally grown sustainable products, healthier eating, building community, promoting the stewardship of our earth's resources and how a school integrates these concepts into their lessons.

Locally, Gabrielle placed second for both her animated film “After Hours” and music video “Flaws” in the Greenwich Youth Film Festival held last April. Her psychological thriller “Out of the Dark” placed first in the Convent of the Sacred Heart Film Festival.

Gabrielle, who lives in Larchmont, NY, she studies creative filmmaking at CSH. This summer, the aspiring film director, plans to study filmmaking at New York Film Academy at Universal Studios in Los Angeles and has created a short film called “Greed” that will premiere at the Santa Monica Film Festival in June.

Gabrielle said, “In the future I can definitely see myself having a career in the film industry. Filmmaking is something I am passionate about, and a couple of nominations here and there are a good reminder that I have something that is worth fighting to achieve.”

Gabrielle said she finds inspiration for her films "from what I see, what people say." She got into filmmaking after taking acting lessons at the New York Film Academy. "I took a filmmaking class to improve my acting and found that I liked filmmaking better."
