A Rainy & Windy Morning With Colder Air on the Way for the Weekend!

Rainy!

Good Morning,

Find out what's happening in Greenwichwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Rain and a gusty wind very early this morning have made for a raw, chilly and rather nasty weather scenario... But, as we go through the next several hours, the intensity of the rain will decrease, and winds should also begin to subside by the end of the morning commute...

The regional radar mosaic this morning is showing that the plume of moisture which is causing the heaviest and steadiest rain has now shifted into central and southern New England... And, while there was a low pressure system located near coastal Delaware as of this writing, the pressure gradient in areas surrounding it is much weaker...

Therefore, with this body of low pressure lifting out to the north and east this morning as it heads into upstate New York and eventually eastern Canada, those stiff winds that we've been encountering should decrease significantly...

Clouds will linger throughout the day, and there could even be a shower in a couple of spots this afternoon or this evening... But, the steadiest rain that has been occurring during the night will be long gone... Winds out of the south and southwest this afternoon should be much lighter, and these will also allow somewhat milder air to make inroads across the mid Atlantic states and parts of the Northeast...

Most temperatures should reach the upper 40s or the lower 50s this afternoon, and then tonight will wind up in either the upper 30s or lower 40s... Certainly, the departure of this wave of low pressure will not be followed by any arctic air poised to strike!!!

But, with a closed upper level low pressure circulation swirling over the Northeast during the next day or two, there should be some unsettled weather around here... Clouds and widely separated showers are still expected over the next two days, and it doesn't look like the overall pattern will improve until Friday or Saturday...

That being said, even though temperatures tomorrow will be within a couple of degrees of 50, there should be a progressively chillier (slightly colder) trend unfolding for Friday and the upcoming weekend...

As a northwest flow becomes well established by Friday, the G.F.S. is the only form of model guidance that is suggesting temperatures will be returning to levels similar to what we'll be seeing tomorrow... Both the European global model and the temperature forecasts from the N.A.M./W.R.F. are some 4-6 degrees lower, and we will stick with these numbers on Friday...

Saturday, even though the prevailing ideas are that there will be more sunshine, most temperatures will have a difficult time getting out of the lower or middle 40s... Sunday and Monday will probably be a bit colder, albeit dry with no less than partial sunshine...

Have a good day!!!
