Good Morning,
Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms have occurred since yesterday afternoon in the mid-Atlantic states and across much of the Tri-State Area...
As a front continues to slowly press to the south and east early this morning, there will still be another shower and thunderstorm around for a while...
However, as the front works its way off the coast during midday, we'll see clouds break for some sunshine, and it will begin to turn less humid this afternoon...
The thunderstorms that erupted yesterday caused frequent, cloud to ground lightning in northeastern Pennsylvania... This led to several injuries at Long Pond, where the NASCAR race was held, and two fatalities...
The first pulse of heavy rain moved through New Jersey and into the New York City Metro Area between 6 and 9 p.m. -- it caused a wind gust clocked at 60 mph at Newark's Liberty Airport shortly before 7:30 p.m. and wind gusts in the 40-60 mph range led to downed tree and power lines... Then, a second wave of thunderstorms across central and southern New Jersey caused winds to gust to near 70 mph at Sandy Hook, New Jersey at approximately 11 p.m. -- then other heavy thunderstorms also hit Monmouth, Ocean, Burlington and Atlantic counties well after midnight...
While some of the rain associated with these thunderstorms was heavy enough to cause some brief street and highway flooding, the wind damage by far is how these storms will be remembered...
Temperatures this afternoon will be mostly in the mid and upper-80s with the sun coming out, but the dewpoint temperatures should start falling by early this afternoon, and then it will be noticeably less humid by the end of the day... This, along with a high pressure system, should set up a much more comfortable night, with most low temperatures in the 60s...
With low humidity and plenty of sunshine tomorrow, temperatures will be mainly in the 80s... As the zone of high pressure starts to drift off the mid-Atlantic and Northeast coasts during midweek, there should be a modest uptick in the humidity on Wednesday, and most temperatures should peak in the mid and upper-80s during the afternoon...
The next front that is forecasted to approach the area later this week may not actually reach the Eastern Seaboard until Friday afternoon or early on Friday night... But, the chances for getting a couple of showers and a thunderstorm or two will be returning as early as Thursday around here...
Temperatures will reach the mid and upper-80s in most places, and should reach the lower-90s in some of the hotter spots... There is some uncertainty about next weekend, but if the next front were to stall somewhere close to the coast, then our chances for getting a shower and thunderstorm won't be fading away just yet... Have a good day !!!
