Back to Big Time Cold!! Windy With Real Feels of 15-20 Degrees!

Good Morning,

In the wake of rain that occurred across much of the Tri-State Area yesterday afternoon and evening, drier air continues to spread out across the Northeast and the mid Atlantic states early this morning...

While there are some flurries and snow showers occurring in some of the higher elevations that are located north and west of the I-95 corridor, the sky farther east (essentially, throughout most of the coastal plain) is mainly clear early this morning... Winds have also picked up quite a bit behind a cold front that has managed to barrel through late yesterday, and some of the gusts today will be close to 35 mph ... This will take temperatures mostly in the lower or middle 30s, and make them "feel like" it’s in the teens in a few places this morning and then the 20s just about everywhere later today...

The sky tonight will be relatively clear, and it will be cold with the wind diminishing just a bit... We expect the wind to pick up again tomorrow, although probably not to the extent we're going to be dealing with today... Nonetheless, highs mostly in the 30s will feel even colder once again...

While a high pressure system originating in eastern Canada builds southward late this week, it will be supplying the Northeast with plenty of dry air... Therefore, Friday should get off to a sunny start, but it will probably end on a cloudier note...

While the Northeast and most of the mid Atlantic states will be getting "shielded" by the zone of high pressure which should be located in central New England on Friday morning, there's going to be moisture associated with a wave of low pressure in the Midwest that will be overrunning it...

Actually, the low pressure system that our maps show in northeastern Missouri on Friday morning will be responsible for a widespread area of heavy snow, ice and rain in the Plains states during the next 36 hours — and will put a 'small dent' in the drought that has been going on in the middle of the country for a while...

As a piece of energy emerges from that large area of low pressure late on Friday / early Friday night, we should see plenty of clouds, as well at least the chance for a period of rain, or a mix of rain and wet snow...

But, we're going to be confronted by some additional challenges during the upcoming weekend... With a low pressure system expected to move across Virginia on Saturday, followed by (what some global models are suggesting) a rapid intensification Saturday night and Sunday morning off the shores of Long Island and New Jersey and CT, there could be a widespread area of rain and wet snow developing in the Eastern Region... Exactly where the steadiest precipitation will be occurring and how much there is remains to be determined, but we should still prepared to talk about the possibility of a weekend storm — and most of its effects could be felt from late on Saturday or Saturday night into Sunday...
