Heavy Rain Today, But A Sunny, Breezy, Cool Weekend is on the Way!

After Friday's rain, expect cooler but sunny weather for the weekend.

Good Morning!

Well, we were stuck on the cool side of the front yesterday keeping in the low clouds. Still, with a high of 60 degrees during the day, it was an "average" day.

Today will be cooler still with temperatures holding in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees across much of the tristate area. Of course, the moderate to heavy rainfall in the area will be largely responsible for little or no warming through the day. The latest models continue to show a good round of moisture for the region leading to rain amounts ranging from 0.75-1.50 inches; locally 2.50 inches is possible. The heaviest of this rain will arrive this morning then continue into the early afternoon before tapering off late. There may be a lingering shower into the evening, but it will be largely dry. I suspect that a flash flood watch will be issued this morning.

Tomorrow it will feel will be milder despite the passing of the cold front, and that will be due to the return of sunshine. Some of the MOS numbers are in the lower 60s, but 850s are around zero which fully mixed would only run around 15C at the surface or 59F. So we'll keep the temperatures in the 50s for now.

Sunday will be cooler still with 850 temperatures below zero and high pressure over the area. This will limit the mixing potential as well as having the colder air aloft. But we are looking at another dry day.

After this point we are going to return to some milder conditions heading into next week. There will be winds picking up from the south as high pressure moves eastward, but the winds are going to be southeast on Monday, so we could have some trouble climbing on Monday afternoon, especially along the coastal areas, I left temperatures alone for now, but its worth mentioning the cooler possibilities.

Tuesday will more likely be a warmer day with southwesterly winds at the surface and aloft. And it wouldn't be a long range forecast if there weren't some issues. Of course, the Tuesday's warmth is in response to the next frontal system approaching and the associated southwest flow as mentioned above.

Now this front will attempt to make a southward push for Wednesday into Thursday. This is still up in the air as to how far and effective this boundary will move into and/or through the region. For now we think the front will make enough southward progression to drop temps back into the 60s, but here too, we can mention that if the front holds to the north (against the usual climatology) it could be warmer.

Have a good day!
