There are some clouds around early today, as a fairly weak area of low pressure near the Carolina Coast continues to generate some rain as far north as southern Maryland before it glides out to sea...
As we pointed out yesterday, the driving force behind our weather here over the next few days will be a fairly strong ridge of high pressure — which will become firmly established over southeastern Canada during the upcoming weekend... A weak cold front moving through Quebec early today will dissipate later this afternoon, and then the strong zone of high pressure will be building across the Great Lakes and into the Northeast late today, tonight and tomorrow...
After many places have failed to get out of the 40s during the past couple of days, we'll be seeing more locations reaching the 50-degree mark today — and much of the Tri-State Area will wind up in the lower 50s during the upcoming weekend...
With the clockwise circulation surrounding that zone of high pressure ushering in a light northeasterly wind tomorrow, the exact orientation of this feature Sunday and Monday should ultimately determine how our sky cover will be...
The tendency for the core of the high pressure system to reach the Canadian Maritimes tomorrow night and on Sunday will keep surface winds primarily out of the northeast, but it may develop more of an easterly component Sunday night and especially on Monday... Therefore, as moisture from the Atlantic pushes back into the Northeast, we could have a fairly extensive deck of stratus clouds around here on Sunday night and Monday morning... It also isn't entirely out of the question that some coastal communities may encounter a touch of drizzle...
But, the thoughts we expressed yesterday STILL DO APPLY in regards to the much talked-about ocean storm early next week... All global models still indicate that it'll be far enough out at sea to not be a key player in our sensible weather Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday... Temperatures should remain mostly in the lower 50s, so despite the presence of this high pressure system for a prolonged period of time, there isn't going to be any kind of significant 'warm-up' occurring...
