Rain To Start the Week Will Leave Behind Picture Perfect Weather!

Good Morning,

As a cold front continues to slowly press eastward into the Northeast early this morning, there's a ripple of energy, or a weak wave of low pressure located along this boundary, which is enhancing rainfall during the pre-dawn hours across the Tri-State Area... And, while this rain since about 1:30 a.m. has been much lighter than the pounding that many places experienced late last evening, there still could be some flooding issues for a while this morning... We're concerned that the intensity of the rain could experience another 'uptick' for a while this morning, so we need to be on the lookout for flooding of some streets and highways, as well as some flooding in areas of poor drainage...

Breaking down what the quantitative precipitation totals are from some of the models, the 00z European and N.A.M./W.R.F. are still showing an additional 0.90-0.95" of rain in Central Park, and the G.F.S. is showing a little more than an inch (1.19" to be exact)... Conversely, across northwestern New Jersey, as well as in the Catskills and in much of the Lower Hudson Valley, these models are printing out much less, or a general 0.25" to 0.50" through late this afternoon...

And, for what its worth, the rain that occurred on much of Long Island last night wasn't nearly as heavy as it was in the City, or in many of its adjacent western suburbs -- so, if Nassau or Suffolk County got some of the heaviest rain moving forward, then future flooding issues wouldn't be as much of a threat in the Five Boroughs, northern New Jersey or in Rockland, Orange and Westchester counties...When all of the rain comes to an end later today, there could be some brightening occurring before the sun sets, especially in those areas located north and west of the I-95 corridor... Drier air will begin to filter into the Northeast late today and especially tonight, which will bring some much more comfortable conditions... It will also be turning noticeably cooler tonight... Temperatures, for the most part, will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s at dawn tomorrow, and the sky will average partly cloudy (promising "total clearing" before daybreak tomorrow may be a bit too optimistic)...

As a high pressure system builds into the Northeast and the mid Atlantic states tomorrow, there should be a decent amount of sunshine, and the day will also feature lowering humidity... Most temperatures will wind up in the mid or upper 70s... In several places, the maximum temperature may not be more than two or three degrees lower than today's, but it will "feel much nicer"outside... Wednesday and Thursday should be nice days, featuring no less than partial sunshine and temperatures mostly in the 70s...

Unfortunately, the week (and the start of the weekend) may not be so nice... The models are suggesting that a new wave will be emerging in the Eastern Region, and that could result in a few showers and thunderstorms here on Friday -- and, in a"worst-case scenario", this could be followed by some steadier rain Friday night and Saturday..

Have a Great Day!
