Summer Today, Rain Tomrrow, Dry & Breezy Mother Day!!

Good Morning,

After some additional rain occurred yesterday, we're getting a break from the recent unsettledweather early this morning across the Tri-State Area...

However, there is patchy dense fog that hasmanaged to form in some outlying areas, which isn't too surprising because of all the moisture that theground has absorbed recently... After this fog dissipates, there should be some sun today, and thismorning and midday should be rain-free (just something we're going to need to get used to after the pastcouple of days)... It will also be turning noticeably warmer this afternoon, with most temperatures reachingthe upper-70s... Because of the winds being primarily out of the southwest, there will be cooler spotsalong the coast of Connecticut, as well as on Long Island's South Shore... But, interior portions of northernand central New Jersey and even the Hudson Valley should have temperatures within a couple of degreesof 80 before the day is through...With the next cold front beginning to press slowly eastward this afternoon and tonight, there is probablygoing to be some convection / a few showers and thunderstorms that will be developing in upstate NewYork and across Pennsylvania... At this point, the earliest we could see any rain happening in the City oralong the coast is about 6 p.m. -- but based on the slow movement of this front, the odds do seem to favorthat the most widespread showers and thunderstorms around here will be occurring tonight intotomorrow... For what its worth, the European global model doesn't even print out any rain in Central Parkuntil after 2 a.m. tomorrow -- and the total amount that it is currently churning out is 0.40" throughout theday (or, between 2 a.m. and 8 p.m.)... Obviously, in a situation where there are multiple showers andthunderstorms, as well as a slow-moving front, we could see drenching downpours which could yieldamounts greater than an inch -- and, because of some of the recent rain that we've had, we should atleast mention the possibility of some flooding, especially in low-lying areas, and areas of poor drainage...Temperatures should be mostly in the 70s tomorrow, but they will begin to trend lower on Mother's Dayand especially early next week...We're being 'cautiously optimistic' about Mother's Day... What we envision happening is, a secondary coldfront will be swinging into the Appalachians on Sunday afternoon... And, even though there will be someinstability generated by the arrival of much colder air aloft behind tomorrow's front, most of the scatteredshowers that flare up on Sunday should be confined to the higher terrain located well north and west ofthe I-95 corridor... But let's not forget that much chillier air is poised to arrive on Sunday night, when manytemperatures will wind up in the 30s in the typically colder spots, and then temperatures on Monday will beno higher than the upper 50s and lower 60s region-wide... Tuesday won't be quite so cool, but still belowthe seasonal averages...

Have a great holiday weekend!
