Updated: 5:20 p.m., June 28:

A 57-year-old truck repair technician who was changing a flat tire on a disabled tractor trailer parked on the shoulder of I-95 in Greenwich was killed early Thursday when a second tractor trailer rammed the victim's service vehicle, according to Connecticut State Police.

According to the accident report released by state police Friday afternoon, the disabled tractor trailer was parked on the shoulder of I-95 near northbound Exit 3. Henry Wagmeister, 57, of 3 Colony Rd., Weston, was the technician who was changing the tire on the truck's fifth axle at about 2:48 a.m.

"A second tractor trailer approached traveling northbound in the right lane. This tractor trailer drifted into the shoulder and struck the service truck, resulting in a fatality," according to the report. The driver of the disabled truck also was on the shoulder, received minor injuries and was taken to Stamford Hospital, according to Sgt. Christophe E. Consorte's report.

The injured driver was identified as Landy Narcisse-Parra, 25, of Elizabeth, NJ. The driver of the second truck, identified as Garfield Simmonds, 48, of Lauderhill FL. According to the report, he also was taken to Stamford Hospital.

Further details were not available and the crash remains under investigation.

Because of the debris field caused by the crash, Greenwich Deputy Fire Chief Tom Nixon ordered the highway shut down for about four hours. Traffic backed up for miles on I-95, all the way to Mamaroneck, NY. Motorists seeking alternative routes clogged Greenwich roads during the rush, prompting Greenwich Police to post officers to direct traffic through the area.

The overnight fatal crash involved two tractor-trailers and one light-duty truck, according to Greenwich Deputy Fire Chief Tom Nixon.

Greenwich firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 2:52 a.m., Nixon said. "The road was closed for a good four hours. It was unsafe due to the debris on the roadway past (northbound) Exit 2," Nixon said.

Connecticut State Police, who are investigating the crash, reopened the highway about 8 a.m. However, the northbound Exit 3 off ramp remains closed, officials said.

Nixon said one of the trucks was carrying "foodstuffs, consumables."

Local roads remain jammed with motorists seeking to avoid the highway. Traffic delays on I-95 reportedly continue with traffic backed up into Mamaroneck, NY.

The northbound travel lanes of I-95 have been reopened to traffic, according to WCBS-880. However, the northbound exit 3 ramp remains closed as Connecticut State Police continue their investigation into a fatal tractor-trailer crash involving several other vehicles.

Original story:

An overnight fatal tractor trailer crash on the northbound Exit 3 ramp in Greenwich has closed the exit to all traffic, according to Greenwich Police.

Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said that only one northbound lane is open to traffic in the area. He said that the exit ramp will remain closed "for a significant portion of the morning" as Connecticut State Police continue their investigation.

Because of the closure, Gray said there is "a heavy traffic condition on local, adjacent roads" causing delays throughout Greenwich. "We have officers posted at key locations" to assist with traffic control, Gray said.

He said motorists should expect long delays in the area.

According to WCBS-880 traffic reports, northbound traffic on I-95 is backed up to Exit 18A in Mamaroneck, NY.

Greenwich Patch will have more details as they become available.
