Breaking Ground for the Future at Sam Bridge Nursery

For more than 80 years, Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses has been keeping Greenwich green ... and colorful.

On the 20-acre parcel of land on North Street, the Bridge family has utilized 30 greenhouses where they raise more than 50,000 perennials and a half-million flowering annuals each year. That's not counting the seasonal plants, trees and shrubs they sell to legions of faithful customers every year.

To continue the family tradition, two generations of the Bridge family recently broke ground on a new greenhouse facility that will house a new store, retail area, growing range and potting area.

The Nexus greenhouse will have the equipment to collect roof runoff  which will be re-circulated and used for irrigation. It also will provide more energy efficient, with zone heating (only areas where plants are located will be heated), heat curtains will be used to retain heat at night, and a new open roof in the greenhouse will eliminate the need for cooling fans.

During construction the nursery, at 437 North St., will remain open for business, selling house plants and seasonal flowers. It is expected construction will be completed in time for the spring season.
