Ford Motor Co., is recalling 10,000 newly redesigned Escapes because of carpet padding issues that could limit braking of the SUV.
The padding, the automaker has found, creates crowding around the brake and gas pedals of its 2013 Escape and could force a driver to hit the brake pedal on one side only instead of straight-on, according to a report on the Huffington Post.
Ford has reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that dealers will make improvements to the vehicle for free.
Ford spokeswoman Marcey Zwiebel said the company has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the problem, which she said was discovered "through internal evaluations," Huffpo reports.
The recall will begin July 23. Owners can call the automaker at 866-436-7332.
