Furloughs Called Off as Pentagon Employees Called Back

Thousands of workers at United Technologies Corp., including Stratford-based Sikorsky, will not be impacted by the government shutdown.

Thousands of Connecticut workers got good news Sunday when the Secretary of Defense announced he was calling back Pentagon employees.

The return of those employees means that furloughs planned in the face of the government shutdown have been called off by United Technologies, the Hartford Courant reports.

Last week, the Hartford-based aerospace company said the furloughs were necessary due to the absence of Defense Contract Management Agency inspectors who normally "audit and approve operations throughout the manufacturing process for military products."

The Courant reports that about 45 federal inspectors work at Sikorsky.
