Hear the Dinner Bell? Eating Out Greenwich Style

Carolyn and Jerry Anderson, and the staff at Anderson Associates sure are a hungry bunch.

And that’s a good thing for you. They’ve combined their appetites and collective penchants for good food and have written the inaugural ‘Anderson Guide to Food in Greenwich Connecticut’ (Avocet Press; $16.95).

For years, the Andersons have compiled the Anderson Guide to Enjoying Greenwich. After eight editions, the guide grew to more than 600 pages, says Carolyn. “The publisher told us if it got any bigger, they wouldn’t be able to bind it. So we thought we would break it out for food,” Carolyn told Greenwich Patch. Hence, the birth of the ‘Anderson Guide to Food.’

From Asian to vegetarian, the Andersons and their staff  review restaurants, delicatessens and food trucks, and wineries in and around Greenwich, the 224-page softbound book provides honest assessments of all things culinary in Greenwich.

According to Carolyn, when she and Jerry and staff are out on the prowl, “We almost always reserve under another name … we take notes under the table. We just want to be treated like everyone else in the restaurant.”

And they’re not shy about using disguises—spoiler alert: the book cover photo doesn’t lend too many clues to their identity. “People shouldn’t be looking for a black hat,” Carolyn says with a laugh.

There are reviews of more than 200 eateries in Greenwich and beyond. And as an added bonus, Carolyn, whose followed her food passion and written cookbooks as well, has included her tips for enjoying your dining experience.     Right now, the book can be purchased at Diane’s Books on Grigg Street, Zyn’s stationery on Greenwich Avenue and Packages and Plus in Cos Cob.

“It will be available in many other of the fine shops in town soon,” Carolyn says.
