ID Theft, Fraud Seminar for Greenwich Retailers

A seminar on "Combating Identity Theft and Retail Fraud" for employees of local businesses will be held Wednesday, July 31 at the Greenwich Police Department.

The department is partnering with the Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force and the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce in presenting the free forum that will be held at 6:15 p.m. July 31 at police headquarters, 11 Bruce Pl.

Speakers will include Senior Special Agent Derek Dunn of the U.S. Secret Service and Greenwich Detective Mark Solomon, both of whom are members of the Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force. Topics will include counterfeit currency, counterfeit credit, debit and gift cards, ATM and credit card skimming and internet hacking of retail businesses.

"The Greenwich Police Department periodically holds seminars for merchants. Most crimes are financial crimes involving merchants in a modern technology age where criminals have developed a lot of ways to steal money," said Lt. Kraig Gray.

"The retailer ultimately is the victim, or their customers. If we can educate retailers to keep them safe and protect them, it is time well spent," Gray added.

Gray said the seminar is open to any merchant and that registration may be made by calling the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce at 203-869-3500.
