North Street Shopping Center Due For an Upgrade

Greenwich-based Sutton Properties has reportedly submitted plans for cosmetic improvements to the small, L-shaped shopping center including installation of a pitched roof and pillars that will give it "a more New England look."

The North Street Shopping Center in the Banksville section of is reportedly getting a much needed facelift as the owners search for a new anchor tenant to lease the space formerly occupied by the IGA grocery store which closed a year ago.

According to a report in the Greenwich Time, Greenwich-based has submitted plans for cosmetic improvements to the small, L-shaped shopping center including installation of a pitched roof and pillars that will give it “a more New England look.” Construction will begin this spring, according to the report, however merchants report that some upgrades have already begun.

The improvements will be welcome by both merchants and residents who have complained that the shopping center’s condition has deteriorated during the past 10 years or more. Merchants interviewed for the report said that they haven’t seen as much business since the IGA grocery store closed in September 2010, due to the decrease in foot traffic.
