NYC Gastropub Restaurant for North Main Street

A Rye House gastropub is planning to move into 126 N. Main Street in downtown Port Chester, making it the third New York City bar/restaurant looking to open an additional location in the village.

Rye House is a NYC Flat Iron neighborhood favorite, known for good Rye (the name comes from the alcohol not the Town), an extensive alcohol list, rustic but hip vibe and upscale gastropub fare like truffle mac and cheese, duck quesadillas and kale Caesar salad, in addition to the Rye Town burger. They are proposing the Port Chester location to be named Rye House Port Chester.

Village Planner Chris Gomez sees the proposal as an extension of niche restaurants looking to open in the village. “It is exciting to have another niche place,” Gomez said.

Heartland Brewery is currently being built at the Metro-North train station building in Port Chester, and the Belguim Beer House is in the works for the “restaurant pad,” at the marina waterfront — the grassy triangular spot in the parking lot between bartarco and Westchester Avenue.

Rye House is planning to offer live music on weekends and will seat about 200 people with 160 table seats inside, 40 at the bar and 16 outside. They will also do some façade work on the building. The owners propose to be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, closing at 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and open until midnight Thursday though Saturday.

The village Planning Commission held a public meeting on the plan July 29 and set a public hearing for the proposal for Aug. 26. The applicants can potentially be through the village process and start building by mid-fall, Gomez said.

The N. Main Street spot is currently empty and has housed offices and a clothes store in the past. Rye House would occupy the ground and lower levels of the two-story building.
