Time For Lunch With Nick Monick And Dolly's Dogs

There's a bright new spot for lunch in the Glenville neighborhood of town.

It's Dolly's Dogs housed in a royal blue and white lunch truck parked every weekday in the lot across from the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center where an affable Nick Monick serves up homecooked fare.

Monick opened for business about a month ago serving up seven different types of burgers, grilled chicken, Nick's rib sandwich, his popular 'full house steak wedge' with chili, cheese, onions and peppers, and of course, hot dogs. The Dolly Dog is a tasty chili dog topped with bacon bits that yield a crunch to the chili that has just the right amount of heat.

The 45-year-old Greenwich native said his foray into food is his "attempt to reinvent myself" after the economy took its toll on the excavation business he operated in town for 20 years. "It was time to move on and try something different. I love food and I love to cook," Monick said.

Working the truck he rebuilt, repainted and named after his mother Dolly, Monick said, "I tried to make this the most reasonable lunch as possible for under $10."

You can find Monick parked beneath the trees from 11 a.m. To 3 p.m. at the corner of Pemberwick and Glenville roads, on week days. He plans to expand his hours soon to include breakfast.
