Westport Resources Raises $60,000 for Fairfield County Community Foundation

Westport Resources, a leading independent investment and financial planning firm serving individuals, families, municipalities and institutions around the world, is very pleased to announce that its second annual Charity Golf Classic, held Monday, June 23, 2014, at The Connecticut Golf Club, raised $60,000 for Fairfield County Community Foundation (FCCF). Westport Resources, as it did last year, underwrote the entire cost of the event, allowing 100 percent of sponsor and participant contributions to be given directly to FCCF.

Juanita James, president and CEO of FCCF, said:  “In all of my years of involvement with nonprofit fundraising events, I have never encountered a host who insisted on giving an organization 100 percent of the proceeds. Westport Resources’ extraordinary generosity and enthusiasm for the work we do is deeply appreciated.”

John Vaccaro, founder and CEO of Westport Resources, said: “Thank you to everyone who supported this very worthwhile event and helped us surpass the amount of funds we raised last year. The Westport Resources team is proud to help FCCF provide assistance to the many nonprofits that work so hard to address our community’s most urgent needs.”

The Charity Golf Classic kicked off at 10:30 a.m. with a putting contest followed by a golf scramble at noon. Westport Resources went above and beyond to ensure an entertaining day for everyone:  Lunch was provided at the turn and refreshments were offered on the course throughout the afternoon. During the scramble golfers enjoyed a Closest to the Pin contest; a Hole-in-One contest in which all foursomes were given the chance to win $35,000 ($10,000 to every player who made an ace; $5,000 to each of the three players in the ace-maker’s foursome; and $10,000 to FCCF); and a grand Shoot Out in which one raffle winner could take one shot to make an ace for $1,000,000 and four others could attempt an ace to win $50,000. Additionally, at each hole golfers were challenged to answer quiz questions about needs of the Fairfield County community. The foursome with the most correct answers won a $5,000 grant from FCCF to contribute to a local charity of its choice. Congratulations to Mr. Robert Brown, chairman of SPAR Group, Inc., for winning the putting contest (he received a gift valued at $700) and to the FCCF quiz winners: Westport Resources Managing Directors Paul LaBossiere, Michael Portnoy and Mark Tonucci.

Following the scramble golfers were met with hors d’oeuvres and a raw bar, dinner and awards. They also received complimentary custom fit Prato sunglasses, Fairway & Green pullovers, Pro V1 golf balls and special tees.
