About DART: Dana's Angels Research Trust (DART) is a non-profit organization dedicated to funding research into the rare childhood disease, Niemann-Pick type C. NPC is often referred to as "children's Alzheimers," as it has a degenerative effect over a short period of time. NPC is a fatal genetic cholesterol storage disease that robs children of the ability to walk, talk and function on their own. It is so rare that there are only 200 known cases of the disease in the Unted States.

Founded by Greenwich Parents: DART, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) public charity, was founded in 2002 by Greenwich parents Andrea and Phil Marella when their daughter, Dana, then age 8, was diagnosed with the devastaing disease. The Marella's youngest child, Andrew, age 13, is also afflicted with the disease.

For the Marellas, Dana and Andrew have been on different treatments funded by research that have helped keep the disease at bay - especially for Andrew, who was diagnosed early. Dana, who is now 19, was not diagnosed until she was eight. She is now confined to a wheelchair and requires complete care --  but because of some successful treatment, Dana is still able to attend school at "Saint Vincent's Special Needs" in Trumbull.

Closing in on a Cure: While the Marella children have already somewhat beaten the odds, it is the hope of DART to find a cure for all of the victims suffering from this brutal disease. To date, DART has raised more than $2.5 million toward the search for a cure for NPC, but more is needed. Your donations are critical in supporting ongoing research such as the clinical trial being conducted currently by the NIH on an exciting new treatment for NPC.

So, "Wouldn't It Be Nice" to catch a wave with THE BEACH BOYS on June 1st and help DART find a cure for NPC? If you can't make the Gala and Concert, please consider DONATING TO DART at www.DanasAngels.org. Funds raised at this event will go directly for research.
