Cold Enough For You? No, Not Really.

The OGA has its annual meeting, and neither cold nor rain can keep people away.

I miss the snow. I even miss, sort of, shoveling. To me, this misbegotten winter has been more depressing because of what is missing. We got a taste of real winter last week and Old Greenwich got to show off how magical it can look when carpeted in fluffy white stuff. Yes, yes, eventually it turns black and grey, but for a couple of days after every snowfall we are every real estate agents dream town.

Without the snow, it’s just cold. And this year it’s only kinda cold. Cold enough so that the rain is miserable, but not cold enough that the first shoots in the garden stay underground. They’re peeking out a bit right now, guaranteeing that spring will be just a little less colorful. Luckily, last Thursday it was neither cold nor wet enough to keep OGers from attending the Old Greenwich Association annual meeting. Held at the for the first time in recent memory, folks learned about storm safety from the experts (thank you assistant chief, Tim Peck), and what the new Village Improvement Committee is up to (thank you, Lile Gibbons).

Another topic, briefly touched on, was the fact that there are a number of people working with the town and the state to not just dredge , but to develop a workable, engineered solution to keeping silt and other contaminants out of the park. Developing a real plan which addresses the problem before it reaches the Pond would be tremendously beneficial, and this is something we will certainly keep an eye on. I for one was saddened about two weeks ago when the temperature did drop and the Pond froze over for a couple of days. It was easy to see the impurities and gunk trapped in the ice, something that could be lessened with a bold new plan.
